Now this may be a lengthy post, but I really want to get this down. As most of our friends and family know we have been trying to get pregnant for quite a while. Approx. 2 1/2 years. Now I know compared to other people that is not a long time, but to us it felt like an eternity. I always had a feeling deep down that there was something wrong with me. My doctor kept telling me that it was just bad timing, but I knew there was more to it. Finally after a year of trying "naturally" he put me on clomid. I was on the lowest dose the first three months then after that each month I was moved up a dose. Finally the doctor told me that he didn't think he could do anything else for me and that I should go to a fertility specialist. I was relieved in a way because I finally felt that something was going to be done. It didn't take him long to diagnose me with PCOS. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Which basically means that instead of my ovaries maturing eggs it matures cycts! What joy! Yet in a way I could finally tell my old doctor "I told you so!" A plan was put in place. I would be put on the highest dose of clomid and if or when an egg was found matured I would then take a shot to release it to then have an IUI done. An IUI is intrauterine insemination (basically artificial insemination.) A couple months later an egg was found and two days later I had the procedure done.
Two weeks after that I took a pregnancy test and after so many negatives I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a postive! Needless to say, I dropped to the floor and started to cry heavily! I immediately called two of my best friends (both of them I woke up especially the one in Utah) then ran to my mom. I know what your thinking. How could I not tell Tater first? Tater was already at work and after I saw that I was pregnant for some reason I started to think that I wanted to find a way to surprise him with the news. Even though he was anxioulsy awaiting my phone call. My mom quickly talked me out of that one and I finally called Tater. So he actually ended up being the fifth person to find out! Oops! It was so surreal.
At eight weeks I had my first ultrasound and what an experience. Words can't describe when you hear the heart beat for the first time. Tater got to be with me and we just stood there in awe. We couldn't believe that what we've been wanting for so long finally was in the works. Actually, I got to have a second ultrasound at 9 1/2 weeks when I went to my real doctors office for the first time and that was neat too getting to see how much the baby grows in such a short time! If I can find a scanner or some other way to post the ultrasound pics I will because they are amazing! I'm just so happy for this amazing blessing we've been giving.
